Prithvi Shaw has officially ended his long-standing association with the Mumbai cricket team after the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) granted him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play elsewhere. The MCA confirmed receiving a formal request from the 24-year-old batter earlier this week and approved it following internal deliberation. “After due consideration, the MCA has granted the NOC,” said Secretary Abhay Hadap in a brief statement.

Prithvi Shaw, once hailed as Mumbai’s next great batting prodigy, rose through the city’s cricketing ranks with record-breaking performances in school and domestic cricket, and even led India’s U-19 team to a World Cup title. However, his recent years with the team have been turbulent, marked by fitness concerns, form slumps, and most recently, his mid-season withdrawal from the Ranji Trophy squad. His decision to part ways with the team signals a fresh chapter in his career and perhaps a shift in environment to revive his red-ball aspirations.
While the MCA has not disclosed the exact reasons behind Shaw’s move, sources suggest the batter was looking for more clarity around his role and future prospects. Speculation has already begun about which state side he might join, with some suggesting he could move to a team that offers him leadership and top-order consistency. For Mumbai, the exit marks the loss of yet another high-profile player in recent years.
Shaw’s departure brings an end to a significant chapter in Mumbai cricket, where he once looked set to be a generational figure. Whether his next move will bring him closer to an India recall remains to be seen, but for now, Mumbai will need to fill the void left by one of its most naturally gifted — and unpredictable — batting talents.
